Atmos was born on the wing of a bird, a fitting origin for the god of air and wind. For him, flying is as natural as breathing, his presence as fleeting as a change in the weather. But controlling a medium that is largely invisible, despite being fun, does have its drawbacks. For this means Atmos rarely ever feels seen.
So when Aleri, a star from a distant galaxy, notices him, he is flattered by her attention. She offers him the gift of youth as long as he enables her to gaze at him more clearly. A lover of games, he agrees—for who wouldn’t want to bemuse their stuffy, supreme siblings—and is delighted when his looks match his fun-loving persona. But, ruled by his youth, he finds himself easily distracted. The blowback from his siblings is as enormous as their egos, and soon it becomes clear there was an object to this game that Aleri did not mention, for his beloved air might be corrupted.
Can Atmos figure out how to win Aleri’s game before she manages to pollute the planet? Or has his inner child turned even the responsibilities of a god into a game forever—a game that is no longer fun but dangerous?
